After a long, rigorous day between practice, community service and public appearances, Boller wants nothing more than to hang out on the couch with his best friend, Max.
In 2003, Kyle Boller was
just 23 years old when he
was picked (19th overall)
in the first round of the
NFL draft. He left his home state of
California to pursue his dream of being a professional
football player as a Baltimore Raven. Along with a new
home and new friends, Boller wanted to find some
companionship that would never judge the 220 lb. rookie
quarterback. Max was a perfect fit. A beautiful Golden
Retriever, Max was born the same year Boller signed with
the Ravens and things could not have been sweeter.
In 2005 and 2006, select Ravens players and their dogs
were featured in a calendar for what is now named BARCS.
With Kyle posing as Mr. September and Max at his side,
they were able to give back to the community by raising
awareness for unwanted, abused and stray animals in
the community.
Fast-forward to the present and you're looking at a
five-year quarterback with over 650 completions and 39
touchdowns to date. As each game passes by, Kyle knows one
thing, "No matter what kind of day you had at work, Max
is always happy to see you," says Boller. "He gets so excited
when I come home that he pees!" That kind of enthusiasm
and unconditional love has to be comforting to someone
whose every professional move is open to public scrutiny.
After a long, rigorous day between practice, community
service and public appearances, Boller wants nothing more
than to hang out on the couch with his best friend, Max.
"He's so loving and kind and genuine ... even my dad says,
'He's some dog. He's almost human.'"
